"A morning spent on AirBnB nets us a Red Room in New Orleans, but no check in till 3PM sends us down the LA 1 to Grande Isle, passing a roadkilled gator along the way (with the deer, cougar, opposi, and armadillo so far, we've been building a collection of the tire tread dead sightings) ... past stilted houses and out to walk on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico with a flock of squabbling birds. Back up along the LA 1 and over to 'Nawlins', where we found our home for the next couple nights. A walk down to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter and African vegetarian and beignets and hot chocolate at the Cafe Du Monde. Back to a too-high bed in a too-red room." (MM)
